The Gospel & Sin with Others
January 20 - The Gospel & Sin with others
“Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.” - James 5:16
The Gospel is about the perfect and complete work of Jesus and what he accomplished for me with his life, death, and resurrection. Because of Jesus, I am made innocent. I am made new. I am looking forward to eternity with him.
And… I still struggle with sin. It’s a reality that every Christian faces, that even though we’ve been saved from the power and penalty of sin, we still deal with the reality of sin in our Christian life. But instead of covering up our sins, the Gospel allows us to be honest with the sins and struggles we deal with in community.
“The more open I am in confessing my sins to fellow-Christians, the more I enjoy the healing of the Lord in response to their grace-filled counsel and prayers.” - Milton Vincent / A Gospel Primer
It’s never comfortable sharing our imperfections and sins, but when we do, we experience fresh grace, renewed community with my family in Christ, and we get true healing. Do you still struggle with sin? Of course we do. But the good news of Jesus allows us to be honest with ourselves and with others.
Know the Gospel. Rehearse it. Share it.
