Saved for Good Works
January 22 - The Gospel Saves for good works
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” - Ephesians 2:10
The Gospel does not save us from our good works, but the Gospel does save us for good works. God views our work as worship to him, and so he calls us to do good works. While we might naturally thing that we would do good to try and pay God back for relationship with him, God actually designed our work for our benefit over his. He is a good and gracious God.
“Indeed, gospel-motivated works do for the soul what food does for the body. They bring refreshment, enjoyment, blessing, and strengthening the doer of the deeds, even more so than the receiver.” (22)
When we actively serve God and desire to see his kingdom grow, we get blessed. It’s kind of backwards. You feeling tired? Serve and get refreshed. You feeling discouraged? Serve and be encouraged. You feeling weak? Serve God and be strengthened.
That’s the Gospel. It’s always backwards to what we think. It’s not about you. It’s for you. The good news of Jesus and the implications for your life are never about you, but always for you.
Know the Gospel. Rehearse it. Share it.
